The Gift of Friendship
- By Renee Hackman - Mt. Pleasant, IA

There are many things important to me,
Many things that money can buy;
Many things that are destructible,
That will perish when I die.

But God has given a special gift,
Something no one can destroy;
Something that lasts for eternity,
Yet on earth it brings us joy.

This gift means a lot to me,
It’s something that I treasure,
And the thought that God has given it
Enhances all it’s pleasure.

This gift consists of sincerity,
It’s held together by laughter.
It harbors many secrets,
Makes memories that linger after.

Friendship is a taste of heaven,
That is given from above,
Of God reminding us to share,
His goodness, joy and love.

Friendship means not only trust,
But someone to understand;
Someone here to pray for you
And always lend a hand.

Friends can hear between the words,
They know just what you’re saying,
And though they may not have an answer,
You’ll still know that they’re praying.

Friends don’t always stay together,
Their ways may drift apart,
But you can find comfort knowing
You once held a place in their heart.

When in our lives there comes on end,
When our feet no longer trod..
There’ll still be the gift of friendship,
Given to us by God.
